    Description

This cast iron picture framing vice, based on the original Stanley 400, is the professional way to clamp square frames. The Axcaliber Mitre Vice fulfils every requirement for a picture frame clamp, ensuring perfectly square corners. It has five holes in the base for a firm fixing onto a bench, normally placed close to the edge. The vice rotates a full 360° locking into the most convenient position. The base tilts 90° from the horizontal to the vertical allowing easy access when pinning the mitre joint. Accurate machining of the main casting, guarantees that the frame corner will be square. A central wooden insert allows you to resaw the joint without risking damage to the saw’s teeth. Simply clamp the two halves of the joint in the vice and saw through them at the joint. Clamping capacity is 105mm wide. The rear jaw is 5mm deep to fit in the frame’s glass rebate; the front (moving) jaw is 8mm deep for firm support. The jaws have an intentional ‘toe-in’ for maximum pressure transfer - the jaw is tilted inwards. Because the force/pressure is perpendicular to the toe-in angle this feature, found on many woodworking devices and clamps, helps to avoid the problems of racking (the tendency of the wood and the bar to bend upwards when under pressure).
